Nillumbik Shire Council is supporting the community with a free green waste drop off day on Sunday 15 November.

The event is being held to assist Nillumbik residents who have accumulated green waste during the COVID-19 restrictions and to help prepare properties for the bushfire season.

The former landfill at Graham Road, Kangaroo Ground, will be open 8am to 4pm on Sunday 15 November to accept residents' green waste.

Only tree prunings, garden clippings and leaf litter will be accepted. No food waste or commercial loads.

Residents will need to show either a rates notice or their driver's licence as proof of residency in the Shire.

The free green waste drop-off day will operate with a COVID-safe plan. Residents must follow directions on signage and provided by staff.

In the meantime, Council's Recycling and Recovery Centre has reopened for normal business.

The centre is currently open Monday to Friday 8am-4pm.

It will be closed on Melbourne Cup Day, Tuesday 3 November.

From Monday 16 November, the centre will return to its normal operating hours of Friday to Monday, 8am-4pm.
