Free Microchipping Day for Pets Hosted by Council

Griffith City Council will host a free microchipping event for pet owners on Saturday, 18 October 2025, at the Off Leash Dog Park, located at the corner of Murrumbidgee Avenue and Coolah Street, at the western end of the Burley Griffin Community Gardens.

Running from 9am to 12 noon, this event offers a valuable opportunity for residents within the Griffith Local Government Area to ensure their pets are microchipped and that their registration details are accurate and up to date.

Council's Compliance Officer and Pound & Animal Rehoming Centre Team will be available to check whether pets are already microchipped. If not, microchipping will be provided free of charge. If your pet's microchip details are incorrect, the team will assist in updating the information on the Companion Animals Register after the event.

Pet owners are reminded to keep dogs leashed and cats contained in appropriate carriers during the event.

The team will also be on hand to answer questions and provide advice on responsible pet ownership. In addition, the Friends of the Griffith Pound will be present to share information about their desexing program and offer desexing vouchers to eligible residents.

This initiative supports Council's commitment to promoting responsible pet ownership and ensuring compliance with the Companion Animals Act 1998, which requires pets to be microchipped and 'Lifetime Registered' by 12 weeks of age or at the time of sale, whichever comes first.
