Council recently hosted another successful free microchipping day for the Leeton Shire community, with more than 30 animals microchipped on Wednesday, 25 March 2026.
The initiative supported responsible pet ownership and improved animal welfare outcomes across the Shire, helping to ensure lost pets can be quickly identified and returned to their owners.
The day also provided a valuable hands-on learning opportunity for veterinary students from Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga, with students able to undertake microchipping as part of their required training.
Manager Planning, Health and Environment, Francois Van Der Berg, acknowledged the team effort behind the initiative.
"This was a great outcome for the community. It's a practical service that makes a real difference, and it's good to see continued strong uptake from local pet owners," Mr Van Der Berg said.
Council will continue to offer free microchipping opportunities in 2026 at the Leeton Pound, 16 Massey Avenue, Leeton, with upcoming sessions scheduled for Saturday 30 May 2026 (9am-1pm), Wednesday 26 August 2026 (1pm-4pm) and Saturday 28 November 2026 (9am-1pm). These events will be promoted closer to each date.
