Top End gardeners and green thumbs - you'll be able to collect more free mulch with the Finocchiaro CLP Government extending the popular scheme at Darwin's Hidden Valley green waste site until Sunday 15 February.
Since 23 January, hundreds of Territorians have already filled their car boots, trailers, utes and light trucks with the mulch sourced from green waste following Cyclone Fina.
Residents of any LGA are welcome to bring roadworthy and well-maintained light vehicles to collect the mulch between 8am and 5pm.
Minister for Logistics and Infrastructure, Bill Yan, said the scheme, due to end yesterday, was extended due to strong demand.
"From Parap to Humpty Doo, people have been telling us how the mulch boosted their gardens and backyards and they wanted to head back for more - so we're keeping the gates open for another week," he said.
"A decent bag of mulch can set you back $15 so even a boot load means more in your pocket when cost-of-living is a such a hot issue."
"And for anyone with a ute, trailer or small truck, a loader is on hand to make the job easy but please bring a tarp to cover it," he said.
Minister Yan said the Finocchiaro CLP Government was always focussed on easing cost-of-living pressures for Territorians.
"We've just scrapped costly annual roadworthy inspections and now you can drive to Hidden Valley to collect free mulch - because we're about delivering savings for Territorians," he said.
