Schools, kindergartens and early learning centres in Casey are invited to jump on board National Tree Day with a free plant pack giveaway from the City of Casey.
Schools can receive up to 50 plants each and kindergartens and early learning centres can receive up to 25 plants each to plant on their grounds on Schools National Tree Day on 24 July.
There are eight different packs to choose from, with plants randomly selected from available stock within a chosen pack.
City of Casey Mayor, Cr Stefan Koomen encouraged Casey schools and kindergarten to register early to secure their chosen plant pack. Plant packs may include ground cover plants, shrubs, wildflowers, edible plants, aquatic plants, native grasses and trees.
"Tree Day is a great way to inspire students to learn about the local environment and make their outdoor spaces more interesting and beautiful, while playing an active role in their community," Cr Koomen said.
"Every additional native plant is contributing to cooler neighbourhoods, cleaner air and provides important habitat for native wildlife."
Planet Ark's National Tree Day started in 1996 and has grown into Australia's largest community tree planting and nature care event. Schools Tree Day is on Friday 24 July and National Tree Day on Sunday 26 July.
Schools, kindergartens and early learning centres in Casey can register for a plant pack until 31 May. Go to bit.ly/freeplantpack
