Free Reconciliation Week Events In Darwin

Darwin City Council

City of Darwin invites everyone to take part in Reconciliation Week 2025, with two free City of Darwin events taking place in the municipality during May.

On Monday 26 May 2025, a Reconciliation Week event will be held at Raintree Park, celebrating First Nations cultures, achievements and stories through live acoustic music by local artist Jaxon De Santis.

On Saturday 31 May 2025, there will be a family-friendly morning of creativity and connection at Casuarina Library.

Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said City of Darwin was committed to forging stronger relationships with Australia's First Peoples and organisations.

"Reconciliation Week provides an opportunity for everyone to reflect on our shared histories and celebrate the cultures and achievements of First Nations people," Mr Vatskalis said.

"We are proud to provide the community an opportunity to take part in Reconciliation Week activities, and I would like to thank our partners, XHALE Events and the Darwin Beach Choir, for helping to bring these events to life.

"Through City of Darwin's Reconciliation Action Plan, we are committed to strengthening the relationship between First Nations people and others, as well as celebrating and demonstrating respect for the first people of these lands, the Larrakia people.

"We invite everyone to join and participate in the Reconciliation Week events at Raintree Park and Casuarina Library," he said.

The Reconciliation Week launch event will feature a Welcome to Country from Larrakia Nation, and mats and cushions will be provided for attendees to sit on to enjoy the activities.

The Reconciliation Week Celebration at Casuarina Library will feature a Larrakia smoking ceremony and participatory activities including lino printing, drawing and more. There will also be a special Storytime session and community sing-along with the Darwin Beach Choir, as well as a damper cooking demonstration.

National Reconciliation Week takes place annually from 27 May until 3 June. This year's theme, Bridging Now to Next, reflects the ongoing connection between past, present and future.
