This year, Leeton Shire Council, in partnership with Transport for NSW (TfNSW), will have a limited number of vouchers available to allow parents and carers in Leeton Shire to have a child car seat fitted or checked by Lanhams of Leeton, who are a TfNSW accredited fitter.
As in previous years, Council also plans to host a free child car seat checking day, giving residents the opportunity to have their seats inspected, ask questions, and receive expert advice on child car seat safety. The event date will be confirmed soon.
"A 2024 study of child restraint practices in NSW conducted by The George Institute shows that 98% of children were observed to be using age-appropriate restraints, however errors in restraint use continue to be widespread with statewide estimates at 65.5%," said Leeton Shire Council Road Safety Officer, Ashlee Hayllar.
"Interestingly, inappropriate use of child restraints was more prevalent in outer regional areas, which is why we place such importance on educating our local community and providing these opportunities to improve child safety on our roads."
Vouchers will be limited to one per household and you must be a resident of Leeton Shire to be eligible. The voucher will cover the cost of the check or installation, however any parts or accessories required come at an additional cost.
