Council is offering free drop-off of real Christmas trees at its Resource Recovery Centres in Broadford, Pyalong, Seymour and Wallan, helping residents recycle responsibly after the festive season.
Live Christmas trees can be dropped off free of charge until 31 January 2026. Trees must be free of decorations, tinsel and stands.
Remember you can also drop off several other items at no charge all year-round. For a full list of accepted items visit Waste and resource recovery fees.
Sorting waste correctly supports recycling and recovery, helping reduce environmental impacts and disposal costs supporting the circular economy.
Free household rubbish drop-off - one weekend only
Council recognises that households may generate additional waste while entertaining over the Christmas period. As a one-off support measure, residents will be able to take up to 2 standard 80-litre garbage bags of general rubbish to a Resource Recovery Centre for free on Saturday 27 December and Sunday 28 December.
Residents are encouraged to recycle wherever possible and use this option only for items that can't go in household recycling, food and garden or glass kerbside bins.
Make sure you bring photo ID with your Mitchell residential address. If you live elsewhere but own property in Mitchell Shire, please bring photo ID and your current rate notice in the same name and address.
