Funding Announced For Reef Citizen Scientist Projects

The Australian Government is investing $4.3 million through the Great Barrier Reef Citizen Science Program.

The Program will help Reef communities, Traditional Owners and other partners to gather key data on the Reef's health and resilience.

Four innovative projects will collect information to that will help tackle major threats to the Reef.

The Great Reef Census is one of the largest citizen science projects in the world's oceans.

eDNA Fish Monitoring aims to track biodiversity and protecting coastal fish habitats.

Celebrating 60 Years of Reef Citizen Science compares new data with a 1967 survey of Ellison Reef.

Grassroots Science at Yunbenun-Magnetic Island, Townsville is to:

  • identify coral and fish
  • map the Reef with drones
  • test water quality.

The Great Barrier Reef Citizen Science Program is funded through the Reef Trust. The Reef Trust is Australia's investment program to protect and manage the Reef.
