Heavy vehicle rest areas provide truck drivers a safe space to pull over and take a break. Truckies keep our country moving and boost productivity, and it's essential for everyone's safety on the road that they are well rested while working.
Through the HVRA initiative, state, territory and local governments can apply for funding to build new or upgrade existing heavy vehicle rest areas.
This can include installing signage for informal rest areas, through to formal rest areas that include facilities such as toilets or shade that support rest for truck drivers.
Up to $5 million in program funding is available per project, with co-contributions to be provided by state or territory governments, private entities or other eligible Australian Government programs.
To date, $36.3 million in HVRA funding has been provided to 21 projects across Australia.
Applications submitted after the 30 June deadline will be assessed under the next tranche, closing 30 September. Applications are batched and assessed up to 3 times a year.
