Funding available for innovative improvements to recycled organics

Sustainability Victoria

The Victorian organics industry is experiencing rapid growth. Through kerbside reform and improved recovery of commercial and industry waste, there is an increasing supply of organic waste and a need to use this waste productively.

There's an opportunity to address this and improve the way we use recycled organics in products such as soil conditioners, soil blends and mulches. Innovations with these products could result in more jobs, added industry value to the economy and reducing more CO2 annually (Australian Organics Recycling Association, 2021).

Funding now available to meet increasing market demand

The Research and Development Fund - Organics will support research organisations and industry to improve existing recycled organics product, process and system performance. The aim is to build a resilient organics market.

$1.6 million is available for research and development projects that will grow the market and enhance the value and performance of existing recycled organic products. These projects must have strong commercial feasibility in the next 2 to 3 years.

Successful recipients will be supported to research and test viability and real-world applications with industry. Industry has a unique opportunity to influence the development of enhanced organics products, finding evidence-based solutions and being some of the first to adopt their use.

Applications close 30 June 2021.
