Independent Education Union - Queensland and Northern Territory Branch

The union representing 17,000 teachers, support staff and principals in non-government schools has welcomed the additional commitment of school funding for Queensland Catholic and Independent schools by the Palaszczuk government as part of their Great Schools, Great Future plan announced today.

Independent Education Union – Queensland and Northern Territory (IEU-QNT) Branch Secretary Terry Burke said the extra funding will provide valued investment into the quality future education of Queensland students as well as create jobs in the construction industry.
"This funding will help ensure Queensland schools continue to be modern education facilities that allow teachers, support staff and principals to do what they do best – provide high-standard education for students," Mr Burke said.
"This investment in school communities is an investment into all of Queensland and supports the workers who will help rebuild our Australian economy in the coming years.
"Non-government schools rely heavily on a vibrant economy and high employment to sustain enrolments.
"These initiatives will do much to support that economy," Mr Burke said.
