The funding is through our Indigenous Languages and Arts program and is part of the Australian Government's commitment to Closing the Gap.
It will support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people express, preserve and maintain their cultures through languages and arts in their local communities across Australia.
The funding includes:
- $41 million shared between First Languages Australia and the network of 23 Indigenous languages centres.
- 6 million towards 8 activities that bring stories to life and preserve culture.
- $4.8 million to support 7 organisations deliver targeted language teaching and learning activities.
- $4.5 million for 44 Indigenous languages and arts activities, including cultural performances, establishing digital languages databases, and community workshops.
