Horsham Rural City Council is pleased to announce it has successfully secured funding through Sport and Recreation Victoria's Local Sports Infrastructure Fund to deliver a strategic planning project for the Horsham Aquatic Centre.
The Centre is an important recreation and fitness facility servicing Horsham and the broader Wimmera region. The Centre provides a range of facilities and services for people of different ages, interests and fitness levels.
Services include recreation opportunities, personal training, individual and group exercise classes, swimming lessons and water aerobics.
The project will undertake a comprehensive feasibility study identifying opportunities and future works to ensure the Horsham Aquatic Centre continues to meet the evolving needs of the community, supporting participation, improving access and enhancing health and wellbeing outcomes.
The project will place a strong focus on improving access and inclusion to the Centre, to increase participation of under-represented groups, including women and girls, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, culturally diverse communities, older adults and people with disability.
The project will also investigate opportunities to improve environmental sustainability, address ageing infrastructure and align the facility with contemporary standards for universal design, safety and accessibility.
The study will explore opportunities to modernise infrastructure, diversify programming and strengthen the Centre's role as a key regional hub.
This important planning work will deliver a clear, evidence-based roadmap to guide the future development of the Horsham Aquatic Centre, ensuring it remains a welcoming, resilient and high-quality community asset for years to come.
The total project cost is $80,000, with $40,000 funded by Victorian State Government and $40,000 contributed by Horsham Rural City Council.
