Lake Boga Recreation Reserve is set to shine brighter, with Swan Hill Rural City Council securing funding through the 2026/27 Local Sports Infrastructure Fund to deliver a major upgrade to the reserve's sports field lighting.

The project will see the installation of modern lighting designed to achieve an average illumination level of 100 lux across the playing field, meeting AFL lighting guidelines and creating a safer, more accessible environment for local sport.

The upgrade will provide greater opportunities for football training and competition, particularly during the winter months when daylight hours are limited, while allowing local clubs and community groups to make better use of the reserve throughout the year.

Mayor Cr Stuart King welcomed the funding, describing it as a fantastic win for the Lake Boga community.

"This is great news for Lake Boga and the many players, families, volunteers and supporters who call the Recreation Reserve home.

"Community sport plays such an important role in bringing people together, particularly in our smaller townships, and having quality facilities makes a real difference.

"Better lighting means safer training conditions, more flexibility for local clubs and greater opportunities for people of all ages to get involved and stay active.

"We're delighted to have secured this funding and look forward to seeing the reserve light up with even more sporting activity," Cr King said.

Lake Boga Football Netball Club President Trevor Doolan said the lighting upgrade would be a huge boost for the club and the wider community.

"This is fantastic news for our club and something that will make a real difference to our players, coaches and volunteers.

"Having better lighting will give us more flexibility with training, particularly during winter when daylight is limited, and help us provide a safer and more enjoyable environment for everyone.

"Our club is such an important part of the Lake Boga community, and it's great to see investment in facilities that will support local sport for many years to come, "Mr Doolan said.

The project reflects Council's ongoing commitment to investing in sporting facilities that support healthy, active and connected communities across the municipality.

Planning and procurement will now progress, with further updates on construction timelines to be shared as the project moves forward.
