The Nationals' candidate for Hunter, Sue Gilroy, has secured crucial funding to make a local intersection near Edgeworth Primary School safer.
Ms Gilroy has committed $11.4 million for Minmi Road and Main Road in Edgeworth, if elected under a future Coalition Government, to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety.
"Parents would know accessing Edgeworth Primary School in the mornings and afternoons can be frustrating with the heavy local traffic, and I am pleased to announce an elected Coalition Government will work to make this area safer," Ms Gilroy said.
"This will include lane construction works and pedestrian safety upgrades, as well as an off-street bus and drop-off area.
"Importantly, this upgrade will make students and their parents feel safer. It will address the increased congestion on the main arterial road and improve safety issues around the school.
"I have spoken to many parents and know there is significant support for the upgrade, especially after the intersection was widened to accommodate two right turning lanes into Minmi Road.
"As a local, I have driven along this road and through the intersection many, many times and I am aware its current format is dangerous and needs to be fixed.
"An elected Coalition Government will ensure this long-awaited upgrade is completed, once and for all, which our local parents and students deserve.
"This is a common-sense announcement which will benefit the community and is part of the Coalition's commitment to get Australia back on track."
