Townsville City Council has secured over $3.6 million to repair the unsealed road network following the unprecedented monsoon earlier this year.
The $3.65 million is jointly funded by the Commonwealth and Queensland Governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).
Local Recovery and Resilience Group Chair Cr Les Walker said the work is well underway on repairing rural roads across the city.
"Council crews have been making steady progress on unsealed roads as part of our submission for the Reconstruction of Essential Public Assets (REPA)," Cr Walker said.
"This is quite an extensive job and there are a lot of roads that we're looking at repairing so it's great that our crews have begun work and its progressing well."
Infrastructure Committee Chair Cr Mark Molachino said the REPA works would improve road conditions for regular travellers in those areas.
"The works to these unsealed roads includes grading and re-gravelling for monsoon-affected areas," Cr Molachino said.
"We've got a very large network of rural roads that are used regularly by the community, so it's important that we got the funding and can get the work completed as quickly as possible."
