Greater Shepparton City Council is pleased to announce that $50,000 in funding has been awarded towards the redevelopment of the WB Hunter Pavilion at Princess Park in Shepparton, through the Australian Cricket Infrastructure Fund.
The Australian Cricket Infrastructure Fund is a competitive funding process, jointly funded by Cricket Victoria and Cricket Australia, which is open to clubs and Local Government Areas in Victoria. Council was successful in their application, which will support the delivery of this major infrastructure project.
The contribution complements a further $50,000 investment from AFL Victoria, in addition to significant financial contributions from the local clubs based at Princess Park.
Mayor, Councillor Geoff Akers, said the funding was another positive outcome for local sporting clubs and the broader community.
"This funding is another important step forward for the WB Hunter Pavilion redevelopment and demonstrates the value of strong partnerships between Council, sporting organisations and our community," he said.
Shepparton Youth Club United Cricket Club President, Steven Nash, said the funding would help deliver significant benefits for the club and its members.
"We're really grateful for this additional funding and excited to see the new pavilion progressing. Since the 2022 floods, it has been challenging operating without permanent clubrooms and facilities," he said.
"This pavilion will provide a modern, welcoming home for our players, members and families, while helping encourage greater participation in the sport."
The previous WB Hunter Pavilion and the cricket changerooms were extensively damaged during the October 2022 flood event. Since that time, Council has worked closely with user groups and stakeholders to progress a long-term solution for the site.
The developed WB Hunter Pavilion is anticipated to be completed towards the end of this year. For more details on the works, visit the Major Project page on Council's website.
