Funds Boost for Adelaide's City Fringe West Revamp

Dept of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications

The Albanese Government is investing over $1 million towards the planning of a new mixed-use precinct in Adelaide's Thebarton and Torrensville.

The City of West Torrens will receive the funding for precinct development and planning to activate former industrial sites and establish the 'City Fringe West Precinct'.

The precinct - bounded by the River Torrens, Holdbrooks Road, Henley Beach Road and Port Road - includes the former West End Brewery site, Adelaide Football Club's home at Thebarton Oval, the University of Adelaide's Thebarton campus and the Brickworks Marketplace.

The precinct master plan will include land use planning, a traffic and parking study, an infrastructure gaps and needs analysis and a business case to get the site investment ready.

Extensive and inclusive community consultation on the site will be led by the City of West Torrens including engagement with local Kaurna First Nations communities, supported by project partners in the City of Adelaide, City of Charles Sturt and the South Australian Government.

This work will include revitalising ageing infrastructure, opening new green spaces, unlocking new housing supply and attracting new business to boost local economic activity.

Funding is being provided through the latest round of the Government's $150 million urban Precincts and Partnerships Program (uPPP).
