Tasmania's forestry sector is a critical contributor to our state's economy and provides vital employment and opportunities for many regional communities.
Our Government is passionate about protecting and growing the forestry sector, because during the greatest health and economic crisis in a generation, every job counts.
Today I was delighted to visit Neville-Smith Forest Products' (NSFP) Mowbray office to announce that NSFP will increase production at their Southwood site in the Huon from 1 July 2021.
Importantly, this will result in 30 new full time jobs for the Huon region and a similar number of indirect jobs throughout the community across the supply chain.
Operating in Tasmania since 1924, the family owned business employ around 120 Tasmanians and I applaud them on their work in equal employment opportunities.
The company's expansion is also a show of confidence in the state's renewable forest industry.
Tasmanians should be proud of our responsible, sustainable Forest Management System and the Government's commitment to continually improve practices while supporting the sector which employs thousands of Tasmanians, injects more than $1.2 billion into our economy and supports regional communities and families.
