Futsalroos Squad Set for ASEAN Championships in Thailand

Football Australia has today announced the 14-player squad to represent Australia at the ASEAN Futsal Championship Thailand 2026 to be contested from 6-12 April.

The tournament, formerly known as the AFF Futsal Championship, is a biennial tournament contested by the national futsal teams of the ASEAN Football Federation. 2016 will be the eighth appearance by the Futsalroos, with Australia having won the silver medal on four occasions.

Australia will compete in Group B alongside defending champions Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei. All matches of the ASEAN Futsal Championships will be hosted at the Nonthaburi Stadium, a state-of-the-art facility with a seating capacity of 10,000.

With eight nations vying for the regional title, the tournament provides Australia with valuable international match experience and a crucial opportunity to build on the momentum from the AFC Futsal Asian Cup which was held in January.

The squad features a blend of experienced campaigners and emerging talent, with 11 players retained from the AFC Futsal Asian Cup, ensuring continuity and valuable tournament experience within the group.

Quotes Attributable to Futsalroos Head Coach, Miles Downie:

"Any opportunity to get international experience for this group is extremely valuable, so we're looking forward to participating in the ASEAN Futsal Championships.

"We have selected four players who were stand out performers at the Football Australia National Futsal Championships underlining the value of the nationals for talent identification."

"We will face strong opposition from across the region but I believe in the potential of this squad and look forward to the challenge."
