It will also develop an employment strategy to maintain local jobs when the container terminals are relocated, and explore new economic opportunities and developments for the coastal city.

The 12-member committee, comprising representatives of State Government agencies, Fremantle Ports, local government and industry is seeking a suitably qualified person to represent the local community.

Expressions of interest are also being sought for community representatives on the Future of Fremantle Reference Group.

This group will support the Future of Fremantle Planning Committee on key issues relating to the Inner Harbour, such as heritage and transport, drawing on local perspectives of members with a long-standing interest, knowledge and involvement in the area.

Applicants are asked to provide a one-page cover letter and current CV demonstrating their capacity to represent the Fremantle community on the committee or reference group by visiting https://www.dplh.wa.gov.au/future-fremantle by Friday August 20, 2021.

As stated by Planning Minister Rita Saffioti:

"With Kwinana confirmed as the location for Perth's new container port, there is now an exciting opportunity to explore the future of Fremantle's North Quay and surrounding land.

"The Future of Fremantle Planning Committee will examine new economic developments at North Quay and Victoria Quay, with a strong focus on job creation, land use and identifying a vision for Fremantle Port's inner harbour in the future.

"Projects already planned or underway to revitalise this part of Fremantle include the Swan River Crossings, a film studio and a micro-brewery and eateries.

"There will be many opportunities for everyone to have their say as the project progresses."

As stated by Fremantle MLA Simone McGurk:

"I know how passionate our Fremantle community is and this is a fantastic opportunity for members to work with other stakeholders and have their say about the future of our coastal city and harbour.

"I would encourage anyone who is keen to represent the community on the committee or reference group to submit their application and be a part of this exciting opportunity."
