Following a strategic review and extensive community engagement, Swan Hill Rural City Councillors this week resolved to undertake an Expression of Interest (EOI) process to determine if there is commercial interest in leasing or managing the Swan Hill Regional Livestock Exchange.
Council's Mayor, Cr Stuart King highlighted that the decision demonstrated Council's commitment to ensuring the long-term sustainability and efficiency of this facility.
"Throughout Council's extensive Strategic Review process, it was made abundantly clear that the facility holds deep importance and significance for many people in our municipality. Primary producers from near and far not only rely on the exchange for their business and industry operations but also share a strong sense of pride and passion for its ongoing success and contribution to the region," Cr King said.
Council's Director Infrastructure, Leah Johnston said that through an Expression of Interest (EOI) process, Council aims to explore opportunities for investment, innovation and improved operations that will continue to benefit producers, agents and the wider community.
"This process will help determine the most effective management model to secure the facility's future.
"Through the exploration of new management or lease options, Council aims to identify a sustainable path forward that may support the facility's long-term operation and value to the region.," Ms Johnston concluded.
Council extends its thanks to all community members and stakeholders who provided input during the Strategic Review and will continue to keep the community informed as the process progresses.
