Gallery Walls to Showcase Unseen Art and New Talent

Australian Catholic University

ACU is making space for unseen artworks by women, and emerging artists, across two magnificent exhibitions this month.

ACU's Melbourne Gallery will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Women's Art Register (W.A.R), Australia's largest, living archive of women's art practice, with a curated collection of artworks by W.A.R members that have received little or no prior exposure.

The UNSEEN Exhibition is a tribute to the invisibility of women in the arts, and will span across multiple mediums including painting, sculpture, photography, and textiles.

Melbourne Gallery Director Professor Catherine Bell said the W.A.R member's exhibition would be an "eclectic" display of female-led artistry.

"Women artists have historically been underrepresented in museum and gallery collections and overlooked by the mainstream art world," Professor Bell said.
