Grants will soon be available to help community sporting clubs improve how they use energy and be more resilient to climate impacts.
Up to 500 sporting clubs across Australia will receive funding. The grants will help clubs to lower energy bills and reduce emissions, and cope during extreme weather events.
Grant guidelines are now available, giving clubs time to prepare before applications open.
These grants are part of the Game On: Teaming Up for Climate Action program. The program will provide $35.3 million over two funding rounds. The first round is expected to open for applications on 11 June 2026 and provide $17.6 million.
Eligible sporting clubs will be able to apply for one-off grants of up to $100,000. The funding will help clubs decarbonise their operations, become more climate resilient and cut their energy bills.
The funding can be used for a range of projects such as:
- installing solar PV systems and batteries.
- carrying out energy audits.
- upgrading lighting and heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems.
- installing disaster-ready infrastructure to protect facilities during extreme weather.
More than 14 million Australians use community sporting facilities each year. Lower energy costs can help clubs spend more on equipment, facilities and local sport programs.
The Game On grants will work alongside other government programs. These include the Cheaper Home Batteries program and finance from the Clean Energy Finance Corporation.
Groups of clubs can also apply together. This allows funding to support upgrades across multiple clubs.
