Minister for Sport and Racing and Minister for the Olympic and Paralympic Games The Honourable Tim Mander
  • Souths Rugby Union Club officially opens new clubhouse and facilities.
  • Stage 2 of the project was made possible through $1 million in funding from the Crisafulli Government's Games On! Program.
  • Games On! is delivering new and improved sporting infrastructure after a decade of decline under Labor.

The Crisafulli Government has delivered a new clubhouse and female changing rooms for sporting groups in Annerley.

Souths Rugby Union Club received $1 million through the Crisafulli Government's Games On! Program, completing Stage 2 of the clubhouse redevelopment.

Left underfunded by Labor in the midst of 1,200 days of Games chaos, the $2.1 million project is now a reality for local players.

Brisbane City Council also contributed almost $370,000 towards the upgrades.

The Games On! Grassroots Infrastructure Program is delivering new and improved sporting infrastructure right across Queensland, supporting the next generation of Queensland sporting talent in the lead-up to the 2032 Games.

Minister for Sport and Racing and Minister for the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tim Mander said the new clubhouse will benefit the entire community.

"Queensland has a rich and proud history in Rugby Union and Souths has been very much at the heart of that tradition," Minister Mander said.

"After Labor left this club in the dark with their broken promises, the Crisafulli Government has delivered on its commitment to get this club match ready.

"These upgrades will help Souths Rugby attract more participants, both juniors and seniors, and encourage more women and girls to take up the game, getting more Queenslanders active and healthy.

"Unlike Labor, we are backing grassroots clubs all across Queensland, delivering the facilities for clubs that were neglected and underfunded."

Souths Rugby Chair of Building Infrastructure and Community Chris Hourigan said the new facilities will provide enormous benefits on and off the field.

"The new clubhouse is a gamechanger for Souths in terms of improved facilities for our players – our junior boys and girls, and senior women and men, as well as for our volunteers, supporters and for the broader community," Mr Hourigan said.

"Stage 1 and Stage 2 were completed with Queensland Government contributions of $1.65 million, of which we are extremely grateful.

"The redevelopment would not have been possible without the support of the Queensland Government and Brisbane City Council."
