Gaming and Wagering Commission Chair to depart

  • Dr Michael Schaper resigns as Chair of WA's Gaming and Wagering Commission
  • Government to appoint replacement Chair in early 2024
  • Minister for Racing and Gaming thanks Dr Schaper for his contribution

The Government of Western Australia has announced Dr Michael Schaper has resigned as Chair of the Gaming and Wagering Commission (GWC).

Dr Schaper will finish in the role in February 2024. He has resigned due to other commitments.

The GWC is responsible for administering the law relating to gaming and wagering in Western Australia.

The independent chairperson and members of the GWC are appointed by the Racing and Gaming Minister.

As stated by Racing and Gaming Minister Paul Papalia:

"I would like to thank Dr Schaper for his contribution to gambling regulation during his time as Chair of the Gaming and Wagering Commission.

"I am confident the good work that has been progressed will continue and I look forward to working with the GWC and its new Chair in 2024."
