Police have recaptured an inmate who escaped from a correctional facility at Broken Hill yesterday.
The 24-year-old man was last seen at the facility about 2.00pm yesterday (Saturday 14 March 2026).
Officers attached to Barrier Police District were notified and have been conducting inquiries to locate him.
Following inquiries, about 10.40am today (Sunday 15 March 2026), police went to a home unit in McGowen Street, Broken Hill, where they located the 24-year-old man.
Two occupants of the unit, a 24-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman, were arrested by police for allegedly harbouring the fugitive and hindering and assaulting police in the execution of their duties as they went to arrest the escapee.
All three were taken to Broken Hill Police Station, where the escapee was charged by way of warrant for revocation of parole and inmate escape from lawful custody.
The other man was charged with knowingly harbour an escaped inmate.
The woman was charged with assaulting police.
All three were refused bail to appear in Bail Division – Court 4 tomorrow (Monday 16 March 2026).
