Gardiner Park in Glen Iris will close from 11 May 2026 for up to three weeks while the synthetic turf surface is repaired.
Prolonged exposure to UV exposure and other environmental factors have damaged the top layer of the turf and some sections have become sticky and are clumping underfoot. This layer will be replaced, with the work expected to be completed within two-three weeks.
During this period, the park will be fenced off and closed to all activities including dog walking, passive recreation and club sporting activities. The adjacent playground will remain open.
We are working with affected clubs to find alternate locations for any activities that fall within the repair period.
We acknowledge that this disruption comes at a challenging time in the season. However, to prevent further turf deterioration and to ensure the playing surface remains suitable and available for ongoing use, the repairs need to be done as soon as possible.
There are no health risks associated with the damaged turf.
