GENERAL MANAGER ANNOUNCES RESIGNATION AFTER TEN YEARS OF SERVICE

Gilgandra Shire Council today announced that General Manager, David Neeves, has tendered his resignation after ten years of service to Council and the Gilgandra community.

Mayor Doug Batten said Council had accepted David's resignation and thanked him for his outstanding contribution to Gilgandra Shire over the past decade.

"David has provided strong and dedicated leadership during a period of significant growth, investment and change for our community," Mayor Batten said.

"On behalf of Council and the community, I would like to sincerely thank him for his commitment, professionalism and service. His leadership has helped position Gilgandra Shire strongly for the future."

Since commencing as General Manager in 2016, David has overseen a period of substantial progress across the organisation and region. During his tenure, Council has delivered more than $100 million in capital works projects, strengthened its financial position, enhanced organisational capability, and successfully navigated significant challenges including drought, flooding events and the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Ten years of service as General Manager is a significant achievement, and David leaves behind a strong legacy of leadership, growth and community outcomes that will benefit Gilgandra Shire for years to come."

Mayor Batten said "David had also played a significant role in advocating for the region and securing opportunities associated with major infrastructure investment, Inland Rail preparedness, which now overlap into the emerging renewable energy sector."

"His contribution extends far beyond the projects delivered," Mayor Batten said.

"He has worked closely with successive Councils, staff, government agencies and community stakeholders to help shape a strong vision for the future of Gilgandra Shire."

David has accepted the position of General Manager with Mid-Western Regional Council and will conclude his employment with Gilgandra Shire Council on 21 August 2026.

Reflecting on his time with Council, David said it had been a privilege to serve the Gilgandra community.

"Leading Gilgandra Shire Council over the past ten years has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my professional career," he said.

"I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved together and grateful for the support of Councillors, staff, stakeholders and the wider community throughout my tenure."

"Gilgandra has a bright future ahead. Council has a strong strategic direction, a capable and committed workforce, and exciting opportunities that will continue to drive growth and prosperity across the region."

Council will shortly commence recruitment for an Interim General Manager, with arrangements in place to ensure a smooth transition and continuity of leadership.

Mayor Batten said Council remained focused on delivering services, infrastructure and strategic priorities for the community.

"While we are sorry to see David leave, we wish him every success in the next chapter of his career and thank him for his significant contribution to Gilgandra Shire."
