Generative AI Practice Direction Released

Administrative Review Tribunal

On 20 August 2026, President Justice Emilios Kyrou AO signed a new practice direction on the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI).

The purpose of the Administrative Review Tribunal (Generative AI) Practice Direction [PDF, <1 MB] (Generative AI Practice Direction) is to provide guidance on the use of generative AI in Tribunal proceedings, specifically:

  1. our approach and expectations of any person using generative AI
  2. instances where extra caution is required when using generative AI
  3. instances when a person must verify, explain or disclose the use of generative AI.

The Generative AI Practice Direction should be read in alignment with the following practice directions, which have recently been updated:
