George Street Reserve ecological burn

Today on Tuesday 6 April, we are conducting an ecological burn at George Street Reserve, Sandringham between 9:45am and 10am.

The weather conditions today are most favourable with a slight southerly breeze providing suitable wind regime.

Ecological burns are conducted according to strict safety and control procedures and are an important environmental management tool to promote regeneration of Bayside's indigenous heathlands and encourage bio-diversity.

Residents living around George Street Reserve have been advised of the planned burn and can expect to see smoke visible for many hours throughout the day.

All paths leading to the burn site will be closed and manned by Council/Citywide officers to ensure community safety.

The ecological burn has been approved by the Metropolitan Fire and Emergency Services Board.
