The Cook Government has taken a major step forward in the revitalisation of the Geraldton Heritage Precinct Ngurra Barlunggu, with the signing of a $6 million contract for significant conservation works.

Through the National Trust of Western Australia, heritage restoration specialists CLPM have been appointed to carry out the project, which will focus on repairs and upgrades across the historic precinct.

This precinct is home to a group of late Victorian and early Federation-era buildings, including the original Victoria District Hospital.

The Geraldton Heritage Precinct plays a key role in the region's cultural and economic landscape. The buildings within the precinct are commercially leased to a variety of local community organisations and tourism-focused enterprises.

The investment aims to enhance the appeal of the precinct to existing and prospective tenants, supporting long-term commercial leasing and sustained community use.

As stated by Heritage Minister Simone McGurk:

"This is an exciting milestone for Geraldton Heritage Precinct Ngurra Barlunggu, and we're proud to be working on this important initiative.

"Many of the buildings within the precinct are commercially leased to a variety of local community organisations and tourism-focused enterprises.

"This project ensures that the unique heritage of Geraldton is preserved and continues to contribute to the vibrancy of the Mid West."
