Kiama Municipal Council is pleased to advise that the long-term lease for Gerringong Surf Life Saving Club is a step closer to being finalised.
The application for Ministerial Consent to grant the proposed lease to Gerringong SLSC was recently submitted to the Office of Local Government.
The OLG has acknowledged receipt of the application and Council is hopeful that later this month or in November that the 10-year plus a further 10-year lease will be signed.
Staff from Council have been working closely with the executive of the surf club to progress the lease in line with the February and June ordinary meeting resolutions.
A series of meetings were held to collectively and constructively discuss and work through all the various clauses and nuances of the lease.
Mayor Cameron McDonald said the finalisation of the lease in the coming weeks would give reassurance to the Surf Club and local residents about the use of this important community facility.
"Councillors have never wavered from their support for the Gerringong Surf Club and the amazing work that their executive and volunteers do patrolling Werri Beach," he said.
"Now we're at the start of the surf patrol season again, it's awesome to see this lease process reaching a conclusion so that everyone has certainty and the facility can be used to its potential.
"I'd like to thank the Gerringong SLSC and members of their community for their time, cooperation and patience in working collaboratively on this matter and I would also like to acknowledge the Federal Government funding provided by Fiona Phillips towards the construction of this important community facility".
Surf life Saving NSW CEO Steve Pearce said: "The progress made on this lease is a positive outcome for the club, its volunteers and the wider community.
"We appreciate the commitment shown by Kiama Council and Gerringong SLSC in working through this process and ensuring this important public safety asset can continue supporting lifesaving operations well into the future."
