Get Online Week 2022 to connect more Tasmanians

Madeleine Ogilvie, Minister for Science and Technology

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is committed to improving digital inclusion for all Tasmanians and ensuring the more vulnerable in our community are not left behind in the digital revolution.

Get Online Week 2022 aims to get more Tasmanians connected to family, friends, services, and information.

In an increasingly digital world, the ability to use digital devices and services has become a fundamental skill for navigating daily life.

Without the right knowledge and confidence, people are at risk of falling further behind.

We know more needs to be done to improve the opportunities, skills and inclusion of those in our community who are not online in an ever more connected world.

Starting from scratch to build digital ability can be intimidating and overwhelming, but help and support is available.

Get Online Weekruns from 17 to 23 October and this year's theme is 'get support to try one new digital thing.'

There are many free and fun digital skills events all around the State to help people boost their digital skills and learn how to do more online.

Libraries play a key role in bridging the digital divide for all ages – they provide free wi-fi, access to technologies and digital support to metropolitan and regional communities across the State.

To broaden the services already available, the Digital Ready for Daily Life program is working with Libraries Tasmania to make finding assistance easy.

In the coming months, Digital Ready for Daily Life will work with regional libraries to deliver small group and one-on-one help in regional communities.

Topics will be driven by local demand and could include cleaning up your social media accounts, cloud storage, Google Docs and navigating MyGov. Current issues such as keeping safe online and personal cyber security basics can also be included if requested.
