Police would like to remind motorists to plan their journeys ahead of the 2025 Gold Coast 500, with several road closures coming into effect as of today.
The event will be held this weekend, from Friday 24 October to Sunday 26 October, and will see key roads in the Main Beach and Surfers Paradise precincts temporarily closed to accommodate race activities and ensure smooth traffic flow.
Police are working in collaboration with event organisers and local authorities to minimise disruption to the general community while maintaining public safety.
Motorists are advised to consider alternate routes this week with several road closures in place leading up to and during the event.
Key road closures:
- Gold Coast Highway will be reduced to one lane in both directions between Waterways Drive and Surfers Paradise Boulevard (near Golden Gate Resort) from today 20 October to 28 October.
- Gold Coast Highway will be reduced to one northbound lane from Thomas Drive to Waterways Drive from today 20 October to 28 October.
- Various side streets within Main Beach and Surfers Paradise will also be affected, with access restricted for residents and businesses, leading up to and during the event.
Commuters should allow extra time for travel. Public transport services, including buses and the G:Link light rail, will continue to operate, with some adjustments to routes and timetables.
Acting Superintendent Michelle Piket said police are committed to ensuring the event runs safely and smoothly.
"The Gold Coast 500 attracts thousands of spectators and participants to our beautiful city, and we are mindful of the impact that has on local traffic and residents."
"Police will have a strong presence throughout the event to try and minimise any disruption to traffic, and to ensure everyone's wellbeing."
"We ask all attendees to respect the road closures and follow police directions."
