The program is in its 19th year with this year’s event the second time it has been hosted alongside neighbouring City of Port Adelaide Enfield. Running from 29 September to 14 October 2018 Growing for Gold focuses on:

 Inclusiveness - all children are welcome to participate regardless of cultural background, disability, or socio-economic background

 Opportunity - sessions are free for all children

 Enjoyment and personal achievement

 Long-term benefits - it is hoped that all children will find a club to join and pursue a life-long love of sports

The Growing for Gold program creates an enjoyable experience for children by offering a diverse range of activities including Archery, Basketball (Aussie Hoops), Cricket, Martial Arts, Netskillz (Netball), Roller Derby, Rowing, Swimming, Tennis and much more.

City of Salisbury Mayor Gillian Aldridge, OAM, said the program encouraged fitness and community engagement.

"Local sponsors and organisations have consistently come on board with the program creating a positive relationship with community members and families in the area.

"Council continues to support this great initiative in order to provide young people with an opportunity to participate in sport and recreation based programs that provide them with a positive experience that will increase the number of young people actively involved in long-term community-based physical activity programs."
