Get your miners right and get out and about

As an article in this month’s Royal Auto highlights, Victoria’s gold renaissance is just as much about getting out and about and exploring the state’s regions while searching for that next big nugget.

Trying your hand is easy, all you need is a hand-pick, pan, trowel and a miner’s right, which allows you to keep any gold you find on public land.

Getting hold of a miners right is easier than ever thanks to a collaboration between Earth Resources Regulation, the Prospectors and Miners Association of Victoria (PMAV) and Services Victoria that has improved the way miner’s rights can be purchased.

The new online process that only takes about three minutes to complete.

Unlike the old system, our new one benefits fossickers by allowing a miner’s right to be reissued if a permit is lost or if an individual changes their address or name.

Conveniently, it also allows the regulator to send email reminders to those whose permit is about to expire.

The look and size of the miner’s right has also been changed, with the permit now the size of a credit card, so it can be easily be kept in a wallet or on a mobile device.

These improvements have all been implemented without increasing the costs of a miner’s right.

Miner’s rights can be purchased through Service Victoria, it could be the most productive $25.20 you ever spend!
