This is a summary of a story on Giving to Duke Health .
A generous gift to Duke Health by Martin Marietta, a leading U.S. supplier of aggregates and other building materials headquartered in Raleigh, will help fund an expansion of Duke Health Cary for hospital services.
The gift will support the development of the new inpatient hospital at Duke Health Cary, part of a broader plan for the 85-acre site envisioned as a vibrant, mixed-use community.
Cary and the greater Wake County region make up one of the fastest-growing areas in North Carolina. Adding hospital services at Duke Health Cary will provide access to health care closer to home and work for the rapidly increasing population. Among those who will benefit are several hundred members of the Martin Marietta team who live nearby and work in one of the company's local quarries or at the corporate headquarters. While Martin Marietta has a coast-to-coast footprint across 28 states, Canada, and The Bahamas, the company makes the biggest difference by partnering with local and regional organizations that share their values.
"We view our business through the lens of stewardship and feel that it's our responsibility to improve our communities," said Michael Petro, Martin Marietta senior vice president and chief financial officer, who earned his MBA at Duke. "With this in mind, the decision to support Duke Health was incredibly easy. This is an important project for the Triangle and its people, and we're proud to have a small role in bringing it to life."
