"Gimme Shelter Charity Concert to help people experiencing homelessness in our community"

This Saturday the Salvation Army's Brisbane Homelessness services will be supported by a group of local Brisbane bands who are passionate about raising much needed funds to support people experiencing homelessness in and around Brisbane.

The Gimme Shelter Charity Concert will be held on Saturday, 11 October at The Back Room venue in Chardons Corner Hotel. Four local bands, Kelly's Heroes, Fried Okras, The Full Creams and 2nd will entertain the crowds all in the name of raising money to help people in Brisbane who find themselves without a home.

"For a while now I've been shocked by the number of people I see around Brisbane sleeping in tents and cars and me and my friends just want to do something to help," said Kevin Kelly, organiser of the Gimme Shelter concert. "Every dollar we can raise through our concert will help someone to get a roof over their head and start to get back on their feet. If you love great music and want to make a difference in your local community, get online and buy some tickets for what's going to be a great night."

Rendle Williams, External Communications Manager for The Salvation Army in Queensland said, "the current homelessness and cost of living crises are making life so difficult for people at the margins to make ends meet. Our teams on the frontline are seeing an increase in complexity and vulnerability of people experiencing homelessness with more and more people are coming to us looking for help. We can only do this through the generous help of people like Kevin and his mates banding together to lend a hand."

The Salvation Army is one of the largest specialist homelessness providers in Queensland, offering crisis and medium-term housing support to those who are homeless on the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Moreton Bay, Sunshine Coast, Cairns and Mount Isa as well as providing long-term housing options through Salvos Housing to hundreds of families across the state.

"It's going to be a great night of music, but more importantly, it's a chance for us to do our bit to help those less fortunate. Get your friends together and buy some tickets to make a difference." said Mr Kelly.
