Gleanire assault investigation continues

GLENAIRE ASSAULT INVESTIGATION CONTINUES

Police continue to investigate an assault at a camp site in Glenaire on 1 April, Victoria Police say.

Investigators believe a Ferntree Gully man had set up camp just off Holy Water Track about 6.30pm.

An unknown male and female arrived in a silver 4WD Ute and set up camp nearby.

All three began talking later in the night before an argument occurred and the Ferntree Gully man was allegedly struck to the head with a shovel.

The victim got into his car and drove away from the camp site before crashing into an embankment nearby.

Police attended the crash scene and the camp site and located camping gear belonging to the unknown male and female, which appeared to have been abandoned.

The 45-year-old victim was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police have spoken with a male in relation to the incident who have since been exonerated from the investigation.

Police wish to speak with a male believed to be in his early 30s, about 173cm tall, thin build with an Italian accent and a distinctive regular facial twitch, including blinking of his eyes.

They would also like to speak with a female believed to be in her late 20s or early 30s, about 162cm tall, with long brown hair and olive complexion wearing black leggings, a red jacket and light coloured beanie.

Police have released face-fit images of the male and female.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
