Gordon Recommits to Wallabies

Rugby Australia and the NSW Waratahs are pleased to confirm Jake Gordon has re-signed for a further two years, making him the latest Wallaby to re-commit until at least the home Rugby World Cup in 2027.

Born and bred in Sydney, the current NSW Waratahs captain, was educated at Sydney Secondary College in Blackwattle Bay and began his Rugby journey with the Canterbury Juniors.

It was there he found a love for the game before going on to join Sydney University Football Club where he fought his way into the Shute Shield side, and subsequently with the Sydney Stars in the National Rugby Championship (NRC) in 2015.

The following year he signed a one year contract with the NSW Waratahs and joined the NSW Country Eagles, helping them to the final and winning the 2016 NRC Player of the Year award.

He made his Super Rugby debut in 2017 against the Lions in Johannesburg and was called into his first Wallabies squad a year later, making his debut in the starting nine jersey against Italy in Padova on the Spring Tour.

The 31-year-old was named captain of his state in 2021 and has gone on to represent the NSW Waratahs on 106 occasions, including 105 in Super Rugby.

At Wallabies level, he has pulled on the gold jersey 29 times with 2024 his most consistent season where he started in all nine Tests he was selected for.

Wallaby number 925 and the NSW Waratahs captain Jake Gordon said: "I'm really happy to be able to commit my future to New South Wales and Australian Rugby for a further two years.

"I have strong confidence in the direction the Waratahs are heading in and I want to continue to work hard to contribute to the success to the team.

"I felt I had my best year for the Wallabies in 2024 and I'm certainly hoping to continue that progress and put my best foot forward to be part of the major milestones coming up here on home soil in the Lions Series and home Rugby World Cup."

Rugby Australia's Director of High Performance, Peter Horne said: "Jake is an important leader within Australian Rugby, and we're extremely pleased he has re-committed until the end of 2027.

"He is someone who works hard and drives standards, and there's no doubt his experience at both state and international level will be important moving forward."

NSW Waratahs Head Coach Dan McKellar said: "I worked with Jake at the Wallabies level, and I've always had a lot of respect for him.

"Coaching against him, he was certainly always a threat. He's got a very good pass, very good kicking game. When he's at his best, his running game will challenge any defence.

"He has grown into a good leader, and that's so important here. We need leaders, players who lead through their actions and keep each other held each other to account.

"It's pleasing for Jake to be here. He has played over one hundred games for the Waratahs.

"Only one person has played 150 for the NSW Waratahs [Benn Robinson/155 games].

"So, that's a goal Jake could potentially reach. And I know that he'll also work closely with [scrumhalf] Teddy Wilson and help develop him over the next period of time."

Gordon's re-signing follows that of fellow Wallabies Len Ikitau, Fraser McReight, Nick Frost, Harry Wilson, Jeremy Williams, Lukhan Salakaia-Loto, Matt Philip, Isaac Kailea and Lachlan Lonergan in recent times.
