Tasmanian Labor backs calls to support industries and small businesses impacted by the closure of a section of the Tasman Highway near Orford.
Acting Labor Leader Anita Dow said with an indefinite timeline on the closure, the Government must work closely with residents and businesses to ensure they are supported through this uncertain time.
"It has been a tough period for this community with COVID-19 impacting tourism visitors, the removal of Job Keeper cutting support for businesses and now the closure of this crucial arterial road," Ms Dow said.
"Tasmanian Labor backs calls for the Government to support residents during this disruptive and difficult time."
Ms Dow said any support from the Government must be determined in consultation with the local community, businesses and industries with a plan to be put in place as soon as possible given the uncertain situation.
"Labor acknowledges these works are necessary to ensure the safety of the community and with alternate travel routes adding significant travel time or posing safety issues, the Government cannot underestimate the impact of the closures on the local communities."
