Government's 30 year infrastructure flop

Tasmanian Labor
  • 30 year strategy promised to be delivered in 2018 now delayed again?
  • Tasmanians deserve serious investment in infrastructure
  • Will Hodgman and Michael Ferguson look to have missed the targets on their 30 Year Infrastructure Strategy for a fourth time.

In July last year, then Minister Jeremy Rockliff promised to release the 30 year strategy by the end of 2018.

Jeremy Rockliff was then forced to admit he missed his own deadline and delayed the release until March this year.

Then the Government's Second Year Agenda promised the Strategy would be delivered some time between July and September (Page 28).

Shadow Infrastructure Minister Shane Broad said as September draws to a close, it appeared the Liberals were again going to fail to deliver.

"When it comes to infrastructure, Will Hodgman and Michael Ferguson are all talk and no action," Dr Broad said.

"The Liberals promised to deliver a long term plan for Tasmania's roads, ports, telecommunications, community facilities and other infrastructure needs.

"Instead we see a series of infrastructure projects, like the Bridgewater Bridge and the Hobart Airport roundabout, delayed to pay for the Government's budget mismanagement.

"Tasmanians deserve a Government that plans for the future and delivers.

"The people of Tasmania are rightly questioning whether the Hodgman Liberal Government is serious about fixing traffic congestion and building important infrastructure projects."

    Shadow Infrastructure Minister
