Governor-General Urged to Resign from Equality Australia

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese must advise the Governor General Sam Mostyn to resign as patron of political activist group Equality Australia, according to the Family First Party.

National Director Lyle Shelton also renewed the party's call for EA to be stripped of its tax-Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status.

Revelations yesterday that EA has intervened in the highly political "what is a woman" court case between biological man Roxanne Tickle and Giggle For Girls app founder Sall Grover is further evidence of its political activism, National Director Lyle Shelton said.

EA received DGR status in controversial circumstances after its rejection by the ACNC was upheld by two courts.

After its failures, Assistant Treasurer Dr Andrew Leigh took the request to cabinet where it was waived through just before the March budget which allocated $4.5 million in tax breaks to the controversial group.

The ACNC rejected EA's application for lucrative tax perks because it ruled that EA had a "non-benevolent purpose of engaging in advocacy to agitate for law reform and social change, and this purpose did not amount to benevolent relief to people in need".

Mr Shelton said it was clearly inappropriate for taxpayers to help fund a legal intervention designed to give "women" with penises access to girls' and women's spaces.

If Equality Australia is allowed DGR status, so too should the Australian Christian Lobby.

Both are political activist groups, but the Albanese Government has pulled strings so that one can be more equal than the other.

Mr Shelton renewed Family First's call for Dr Leigh to be referred to the National Anti-Corruption Commission over the decision to favour EA.

"A decision that has been rejected by the ACNC, the Administrative Appeals Tribunal and Federal Court but waived through on a political whim should be scrutinised by the NACC," Mr Shelton said.

"Clearly the Governor General should not be patron of a political activist organisation, particularly one which lobbies for experimental and irreversible gender change treatments on children."

Mr Shelton said Equality Australia is simply the re-branded Australian Marriage Equality organisation which was set up to fight the political campaign to change the definition of marriage.

"As our head of state, the Governor General must remain above politics," Mr Shelton said.

"Family First is raising candidates to stand at the up-coming South Australian, Victorian and New South Wales elections who will fight for the rights of girls and women to be restored in law."
