Melton City Council welcomed the Governor of Victoria, Her Excellency Professor the Honourable Margaret Gardner AC, to the City of Melton on Wednesday 2 September.
The visit provided an opportunity for the Governor to spend time in one of Australia's fastest-growing communities, to see and hear about the City of Melton, its growth, its people and the opportunities and challenges in a growth area.
The day began at the Melton Library and Learning Hub, where Her Excellency met with Council representatives, including the Mayor, Councillors, and Council's senior leaders for a conversation about the City of Melton's past, present and future.
Her Excellency then visited the Study Hub within the Melton Library and Learning Hub, to learn how students can access campus-style study spaces, academic and administrative support, and a range of free student services through the partnership between Djerriwarrh Community & Education Services, Victoria University and Council.
Next was a tour of Council's under construction Cobblebank Community Hub, which provided a view of the Cobblebank area and an overview of Council's vision for the Cobblebank Community Hub to provide accessible and inclusive community services closer to home for the City's residents.
The visit concluded with stops at local businesses, including ABMT Textiles and Swisse Wellness, showcasing the innovation, resilience and entrepreneurial spirit that continues to drive our local economy.
Visits to communities across Victoria form an important part of the Governor's program, providing opportunities to meet with local leaders, organisations and community members and develop a deeper understanding of the communities that she represents across the state.
The Honourable Margaret Gardner AC is Victoria's 30th Governor and has served in the role since August 2023.
Council was honoured to welcome the Governor and provide an opportunity to experience the City firsthand and hear from the people who live and work here.
