Grants assessor teams to visit Murray River communities

Murray River Council

A specialised team of flood recovery grant assessors are arriving in the Edward River and Murray River Local Government Areas from Monday, 20 March to assist residents, businesses owners and primary producers with grant applications.

NSW Reconstruction Authority's Acting Director for the Riverina Murray Region, Linda Thomas, said communities affected by last year's floods will have access to the support service.

"The grants team have been very successful at connecting individuals, families, farmers and business owners with financial assistance through face-to-face appointments.

"The specialised grant assessors work step-by-step with locals and take them through the process of applying for grants and what documentation is required for an application to be approved," Ms Thomas said.

Grant support sessions are being held at the following locations:

• Monday 20 March, 11am to 6pm - Moama Bowling Club, 6 Shaw Street, Moama

• Tuesday 21 March, 11am to 6pm - Deniliquin Town Hall, 170 Cressy Street, Deniliquin

• Wednesday 22 March, 11am to 6pm - Moulamein Bowling Club, Endeavour Drive, Moulamein

Edward River Council CEO Phil Stone says the grants sessions are a perfect opportunity for residents to find out what funding is available to them.

"It's great to see the NSW Government taking this approach and I encourage everyone affected by the floods to book in and discuss grant funding options that may be available to assist you and your business," he said.

Murray River Council CEO, Terry Dodds is also encouraging flood effected businesses to attend the sessions.

"Navigating the grant application process can often be overwhelming, particularly when businesses and primary producers are trying to manage a whole range of issues to do with flood recovery.

"This session is a great opportunity to get a little bit of extra support. I'd encourage our local businesses to make an appointment, learn about the resources available and utilise the agencies in attendance to help get the assistance they need," he said.

The applications the team will help residents with include:

• Disaster Relief Grants

• Primary Producers Recovery Grants

• Rural Landholder Support Package

• Small and Medium-sized Business & Not-for-profit Organisations Support Grants

• Back Home Grants

• The Rental Support Scheme.
