Grants Boost Community Involvement in 16 Days in WA

  • Cook Labor Government awards $200,000 in grants to a range of organisations to support 16 Days in WA
  • Events and activities across the State will unite communities and shine a light on family and domestic violence
  • Western Australians encouraged to play their part in preventing family and domestic violence to help build safe and inclusive communities throughout WA

The Cook Labor Government has awarded $200,000 in grants for events and activities to support the 16 Days in WA campaign against family and domestic violence.

The Centre for Women's Safety and Wellbeing (CWSW) and the Aboriginal Family Legal Services have received $25,000 each to administer small community grants to a wide range of organisations across Western Australia to run 16 Days in WA events.

A further $150,000 is being shared by Stopping Family Violence, Perth-based social innovation organisation ThirdStory , and CWSW who will use the funding to extend the reach and impact of the campaign messaging, with a focus on reaching men and boys.

The announcement marks just two weeks until the start of the 16 Days in WA campaign, now in its ninth year.

The theme for 2025, 'Stopping Family and Domestic Violence: Play your part', encourages Western Australians to drive cultural change by challenging the harmful behaviours and attitudes that lead to family and domestic violence.

For the first time, the campaign will focus on men and boys championing respect for women and taking positive action to support the campaign across the State.

Events funded through the grants range from workshops, morning teas, and markets, to silent marches and a community mural including a candlelight vigil hosted by Goldfields Women's Refuge Association and an art exhibition facilitated by MercyCare Mirrabooka.

The 16 Days in WA campaign runs from 25 November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) to 10 December (Human Rights Day.)

As stated by Prevention of Family and Domestic Violence Minister Jessica Stojkovski:

"I encourage all Western Australians to get involved with the 16 Days in WA campaign to help stop family and domestic violence before it starts.

"Whether it's attending a local community event, calling out inappropriate behaviour, or starting a conversation with a loved one, we all have a part to play when it comes to preventing this scourge on our society.

"I would like to thank all the organisations involved for standing with us to challenge the attitudes and behaviours enabling violence against women.

"16 Days in WA is a key part of the Cook Labor Government's response to family and domestic violence - ensuring we continue to build safe and inclusive communities.

"Backed by record new investment of half a billion dollars, with a focus on prevention, accountability, and safety, we will not stop until every woman is safe."
