A $96,000 pool of funding is available for local community, environment, and sporting groups, with applications now open for Cessnock City Council's 2026 Community, Sporting and Environment Grants.
The annual grant program supports projects that promote community participation, wellbeing, cultural development, environmental sustainability, or the enhancement of local Council facilities.
Eligible initiatives may seek support for minor capital works, equipment purchases for Council's community assets, or projects designed to create long-term positive impacts in Cessnock LGA - such as projects that make on-the-ground improvements to the local environment.
Local organisations or community groups can apply for funding across four categories, with the following total funding pools available:
- Sporting Facilities - $30,000
- Community Facilities - $30,000
- Sustainable Communities - Tidy Towns - $11,000
- Community and Cultural Development - $25,000
Cessnock City Mayor Dan Watton encouraged interested groups to read the grant criteria and contact Council to discuss a potential application.
"It's important that Council supports local initiatives that improve services and spaces we all enjoy, and which strengthen the bonds within our community," said Mayor Watton.
General Manager Natalia Cowley said Council was committed to assisting those driving positive change in the community.
"Our community assets, sporting organisations, community groups, and not-for-profit environmental groups foster local pride, community connection and a positive community image," said Ms Cowley.
Applications for the current round of grants are now open and will close at 5pm Friday 25 September 2026. Successful applicants to be notified by December.
