RED Grants Set To Benefit Goldfields-Esperance Region

  • Regional Economic Development (RED) Grants now open with applications closing on 14 January 2027
  • RED Grants program, launched in 2018, is a $65.85 million State Labor Government initiative, that invests in locally driven projects to stimulate job creation and economic growth in regional Western Australia
  • Kalgoorlie-based business Demolition WA already benefitting from $125,000 grant

Goldfields-Esperance Minister David Michael has urged businesspeople in the region to apply for the latest round of the Regional Economic Development (RED) Grants program to help expand, diversify, and increase the capabilities of their businesses.

South Kalgoorlie business Demolition WA has already benefited from a $125,000 RED Grant, helping it to achieve Class A asbestos removal licensing.

This compliance has enabled the business to undertake essential friable asbestos work in the region.

The process of removal and remediation of friable asbestos has traditionally required engaging Perth-based businesses, inflating the cost of the service locally.

This project supports local service provision, increasing cost efficiencies for clients and improving community safety.

The funding supports the purchase of equipment, ISO compliance, and training requirements to become Class A certified.

A local business addressing this long-standing issue for site remediation will create opportunities to make otherwise unusable residential blocks available for future development.

This will help unlock additional land for housing in regional communities experiencing housing pressure.

Program guidelines and applications for projects based in the Goldfields-Esperance region are available on the Goldfields-Esperance Development Commission website.

As stated by Goldfields-Esperance Minister David Michael:

"The Goldfields-Esperance region contributes significantly to the State's economic growth.

"RED Grants support the kind of locally driven projects that strengthen regional economies and create opportunities for businesses to grow and employ local people.

"A business such as Demolition WA is a prime example of a local family business identifying a gap in the market and knowing it has the skills to fill it.

"I encourage other businesses to think about projects that could also benefit from this grants program."

As stated by Regional Development Minister Stephen Dawson:

"The Cook Labor Government is committed to supporting regional businesses to expand, diversify and create local jobs. Through the RED Grants program, we're investing in projects that deliver long-term economic benefits for Goldfields-Esperance communities.

"Demolition WA's project is a great example of how targeted regional investment can have a lasting impact, building specialist local expertise, reducing costs for the community and helping unlock future housing opportunities in the region."

As stated by Kalgoorlie MLA Ali Kent:

"The RED Grants program is a truly unique funding initiative, where funds directly benefit local business and organisations to grow.

"I urge businesspeople in the region with an idea on how to boost their business or organisation to explore the opportunities provided through the RED Grants program and take advantage of the support provided on the ground from the Goldfields-Esperance Development Commission."
